Wood Plans Design Center

The EZwoodshop Design Center offers project design help - with downloadable templates, cutting diagrams, graph paper, and how-to guides for building just about anything; including bookcases, pergolas, playhouses, and more. My wood project design tools are unique because they are not software. They consist of downloadable PDF templates and guides that help designers sketch and plan their own project designs - with a pencil.

Workbench Plans

There are lots of different workbench plans on the Web to choose from. Be careful, though. Some are specifically designed for the art of woodworking, not fixing your mower. How to tell the difference? A woodworking bench is usually made from expensive hardwoods, like oak and maple, and will have you using tools like wood planers, router tables, and drill presses to get the thing built. A simple garage bench goes together with 2x4s and a circular saw.

Bookcase Plans

A bookcase is a perfect first-time project for learning how to work with wood. Besides, everyone can use an extra bookcase somewhere around the house. A bookcase might appear to be a complicated project to build, but once you understand the basics of how the joinery works, this project goes together surprisingly quick and easy. Best part is that you can decide for yourself how complicated - or simple - you want to make the design.

Pergola Plans

You'll find everything from really simple to really complex plans for pergolas. You might end up bringing together several different plans to make some type of hybrid for your particular backyard or patio. By far, the easiest style to build is the pergola attached to a house or deck. This lets you avoid the work of installing concrete footings and supports - a necessary component if you're wanting to build a free-standing pergola out in the backyard.

Loft Bed Plans

Perfect project for making something really, really practical. Loft bed plans are especially nice for college dorms, guest bedrooms, and dens. Like most woodworking plans on the Web, you'll find everything from very simple to very complex designs. If you think about the type of tools you already own - like a circular saw, table saw, router, drill press - this in itself will tell you which kind of loft bed plan you should be looking at.

Playhouse Plans

Nice project for building something that the kids will love. Heck, they can even help with plans like these. Check to see if the plan designer mentions anything about adhering to safety standards. You don't want kids hurting themselves. If this is the first time you've tried building an outdoor project of this size - you might be surprised at all the construction techniques you'll learn in the process. Much of a playhouse's construction is similar to a real house - just smaller.

Platfom Bed Plans

Platform beds are getting really popular lately. They're inexpensive to build (compared to the $1000 you can spend on a traditional bed) and for a lot of people, they help relieve back problems. What a deal. Like other woodworking plans, though, you'll need to be careful to find a design that fits your skills and the tools you own. Some platform bed designs are wonderfully simple to build, yet others are incredibly difficult and complex.

Graph Paper

The nice thing about being able to download printable graph paper is that you only need to print the pages you need for a given for wood project. This can save you from spending a fairly good chunk of change on a full pad of graph paper at your local office supply store (which will be overpriced for sure.)

Potting Bench Plans

Once you have a real potting bench set up, you'll wonder how you ever got along with it. No more bending over, down on your knees, messy garden drudgery. Some plans have a special feature for repotting and watering your plants, where the excess dirt and water conveniently falls into a bin below the table top.
